Adult Parasite Prevention Recommendations:
Canine
Monthly administration of a heartworm preventative with intestinal parasite protection is recommended. Flea and tick prevention is also recommended. DVM commonly prescribes Trifexis, Advantage Multi and Revolution. Two product protocols such as Comfortis with Heartgard are also effective. Heartworm tests and fecal parasite tests are recommended annually especially if not using a preventative.
.
Feline
Monthly administration of a heartworm preventative with intestinal parasite protection is reccommended for cats depending on age and lifestyle. However many cats do not do well with oral administration. DVM commonly prescribes Advantage Multi and Revolution but Comfortis is an excellent for feline external parasites if oral medication is not an issue. Fecal parasite tests are recommended annually especially if not using a preventative.
Equine Rotation Deworming Schedule: DVM recommends deworming every 8 weeks, utilizing bi-annual fecal flotation testing (microscopic parasite screening) to ensure the protocol is appropriate for each memeber of the herd. Occasionaly an alternative protocol may be better suited to your animals. Talk with Dr. Davison to determine the very best plan for your horses.
